HH Compass 

The HH Compass is inspired by the Nordic Compass, a feature of Norse mythology that is meant to prevent the bearer from losing his way in rough weather.

The HH Compass represents the Hero’s Journey.  It is a reminder to return to the Healing Path if one should wander from it.

Each symbol in the Compass holds meaning, starting with the center empty circle.  The empty circle is the artist’s representation of the Tao - the Tao radiates unconditional love which is the building block of life and from which the eight bars of the compass are based.

The bars of the Compass beginning with the twelve o’ clock position (#1) and numbered moving clockwise:

#1 - Simple style of the HH Brand.

#2 - X L I - the roman numeral for 41.  The journey undertaken by the Veterans who come through Heroes and Horses is 41 days in length.

# 3 - The triangle closest to the center is the alchemy symbol for Earth.  It is followed by the mountain range symbol representing Montana, cowboy week, and the pack trip, all aspects of the 41 days spent at Heroes and Horses.  The V at the end of that shape transforms the shape into the symbol for a snake.  In the Shamanic world the snake represents the shedding of the old for the new - rebirth and growth.

#4 - The triangle closest to the center is the alchemy symbol for Air.  The next symbol means KING OF THE BREATH and represents meditation and breathwork, two important modalities utilized during the 41 day journey. 

# 5 - Horseshoe style symbols representing the equine and horsemanship component of the 41 day experience.

#6 - 3 shapes to symbolize the human being taken apart.  During the 41 day journey the individual is broken down so that healing can begin.

# 7 - The triangle closest to the center is the alchemy symbol for Water.  The next symbol is a very simple Ohm symbol ( Shape ).  Together these represent the cold plunge and Warrior Wash ceremony.  Through the use of water we are connected with our mind, body and spirit

#  8 - The triangle closest to the center is the alchemy symbol for fire. The elements of cold and heat are used for physiological, emotional, and spiritual healing.  The next symbol represents a door that has been opened. The four lines inside that shape are for the Lakota Inipi ceremony that is shared with Veterans during their 41 day journey.
